Building campaign links with the linkpado UTM builder
How to skip hand-assembling UTM parameters and generate a campaign URL with linkpado's free UTM builder, then shorten it right away.
What UTM parameters are and why you should pair them with a short link is covered in Campaign tracking with UTM parameters and short links. This post walks through building that UTM-tagged address with linkpado's free UTM builder instead of assembling it by hand.
1. Enter the original URL
On the UTM builder page, enter the destination address in the Original URL field at the top. It needs to be a full address starting with https://.
2. Fill in the three required fields
The three fields right below are required:
- Source (utm_source): where the traffic starts, like
instagramornewsletter - Medium (utm_medium): the channel type, like
socialoremail - Campaign (utm_campaign): a name for this campaign, like
summer_sale
Once all three are filled in, the full UTM-tagged address appears live in the Generated URL section below.
3. Fill in the optional fields if you need them
Add Term (utm_term) if you want to track search-ad keywords, or Content (utm_content) to distinguish banners or button positions within the same campaign. The URL still works fine if you leave both blank.
4. Copy it, or shorten it right there
Below the generated URL, pick one of two buttons:
- Copy: copies the UTM-tagged address as-is to your clipboard, for when you want to shorten it somewhere else.
- Shorten with Linkpado: creates a short link on the spot, without leaving the page. The resulting short link appears right below the builder, ready to copy and ship.
If you try to shorten a URL on a domain that isn't approved yet, you'll be routed to the domain approval page — worth doing ahead of time if you're using a custom domain.
Repeat it per channel
Run the UTM builder again with the same destination but a different utm_source for Instagram, your newsletter, or KakaoTalk, and you get a distinct short link per channel. Compare their click counts on your linkpado dashboard to see which channel is actually driving more visits.
